As-Salamu alykum
The Author of the Book 'Muhammad' notes in her book that the Islamphobia that we see today stems from 'the matyr monks' who knew that they would recieve the death penalty for disrespecting Muhammad , so they went around purposely hurting the feelings of Muslims to be added to their hall of fame, even thought they finally had to be executed, the Muslims very well knew their game and gave them leeway until it got to the point they had to put their foot down.
They the suicide monks dstorted Islam in the eyes of the people but yet the early Christinas condemned their actions and sayings because they knew that Islam was a beautiful religion and Muhammad was a peace maker and not a war monger.
The Author of the book Karen Armstrong is a Roman Catholic Nun and to be honest this is one of the best Christian books i have ever seen written on Islam.
She defends Islam better than Muslims who sit on their backsides to live a a comfortable life in the west and then complain with bags of gas when the religion of Islam is defamed in the Media.
This book is well worth reading and just by reading the introduction of this book i broke into tears.
I personally feel that Muslims are the cause of this hatred due to the fact for the last 200 years Dawah activities have been lacking.
Not denying there is Dawah being done, it is only by a small number of Muslims, Dawah can be in many forms too.
But the hatred you see on websites will not stop but what i hope to do is bring the answers to the table so Muslims and non Muslims can stand strong in their view of Islam.
Keeping in mind this can not be done alone.

Answer:
A great number of the people of the book wish they could turn you to unbelief after you have belived, from selfish envy, after the truth has become manifest to them, but forgive and overlook (2:109)
